The chickens are finally too fat to squeeze through the fence to get to the lettuce in the upper garden. Now they wait outside for the puddle to fill after watering. I'll trade them the lettuce for some eggs. Still waiting for them to lay.

The bees have been bringing in pollen from the raspberries. The cream pigmentation gathered from the flower adds to the palette of colors already filling the wax cupboards. I look inside the hive and am fascinated by the spectrum brought in from the bees. It is like a little wax paint box.
We let some Ladybugs go in the garden earlier in the week. My Aunt Janie does this every year to help with the bug problem. Why do I? Just because I think it is neat and I love her story of watching the little polka dotted soldiers march out of the bag and into the garden. I searched for my own bug problem to justify my $6.95 purchase and then decided this is better than going to the movies and bought them anyway. I love the thought of having 1800 ladybugs in the garden. Well.. *1785. We let them go in the early evening before bed. We watched until every last one disappeared into the green.
first thing the next morning we woke and ran out to the garden in our pajamas to see what they were doing. . .

Today, Otto, Mae, Sutter ( my nephew ) and I caught and released 15 different pollinators foraging in the raspberry thicket. We were out there for an hour laughing and running with glass jars. Each time the lid clasped down I knew a squeal of delight would soon follow.

*Otto made a finger bridge from the leaves to his hand and had 10 or 20 crawling up his arm. Mae was right behind me catching them as well. This plastic tub filled with bugs slept on her pillow all night with the promise she would let them go first thing in the morning, and

They got right to work, although this one appears to be on break, taking in a little aromatherapy at the Lavender.

..and good to watch while laying on your belly in the grass with the kids.

Love reading about all the "life" going on at your place....lovely images.
I am in awe of the bee image...it's just unbelieveable...that perspective.
I'm betting the aromatherapy-loving bug is headed to yoga class around 9:00.
I am beyond IN LOVE with that shot of your hives. Pure perfection. Would love to see what you have painted on the front...
You know it is National Pollinator Week right?

WOW! Love your photos. The photo of the bees pollenating is fantastic. I love ladybugs also but don't have a garden. I'm thinking of buying a bag of them anyways!
amazing shot of those bees! and that background - what a view!
Wow, what a shot of your hives and the activity. Set with that background no less! I am coming back in my next life as a bee to live at one of your hives!
I will send you all the ladybugs you want for free. We get infested every fall and spring. As in...in the house! My secret to my "green thumb though"
Would love to see a photo of your wax...actually would love to buy it!! :)
